Common sense…

Holidays are contagious to me, I wish they would come yet I wish they wouldn’t come at all sometimes. Yes, with no one to yell at me to get up & sleep at the right time of the day, I have a tendency to technically reverse sleeping times. It has gotten even worse when I stumbled upon a link with lots and lots of ebooks, which was like a jackpot that contributed to my reversed sleeping times. Once I start a book, I can’t stop until I finish the damned book. That’s another bad habit I can’t seem to get rid of, if you read my posts often enough I have loads of bad habits. I think I have to stop posting such depressing topics on my blog, it’s hardly worth reading…

So anyway, I received another interesting email from my dad and maybe you might have read it already…I’ll share it on the blog because I’m not that much into emailing people…

An Obituary printed in the London Times – not a joke and makes you think!

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:
Knowing when to come in out of the rain;
Why the early bird gets the worm;
Life isn’t always fair;
and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don’t spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place:
Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sunscreen  or an Aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn’t defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault..

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death
by his parents, Truth and Trust;
by his wife, Discretion;
by his daughter, Responsibility and
by his son, Reason.

He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers:
I Know My Rights
I Want It Now
Someone Else Is To Blame
I am a Victim

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

If you still remember him, pass this on.
If not, join the majority and do nothing.

I do often wonder where common sense has gone, apparently the things that I think are common sense don’t apply to other people. I’m not saying that I’m smarter or have more general knowledge or am always right in everything I do, I know I’m not, but there are somethings that I don’t understand how people can’t not know. It’s like the case where the lady wanted to park her car in Desa Sri Hartamas and told her young daughter to stand outside and she accidentally stepped on the accelerator instead of the brakes killing her young daughter.

I can’t help but imagine the grief she is going through right now because of that one mistake she made but someone with common sense would not let her young daughter stand on the road side while she parked the car, what’s wrong with letting her child stay in the car where you can watch her and know that she’s safe while she parked the car?

There are many unbelievably stupid things people out there do (and I haven’t seen much of the world at all being only 19, that alone speaks volumes) that I can’t comprehend why they do it, I cannot imagine why someone would do things like that and I’ll ask, where’s their common sense?

OH By the way! Don’t forget to vote for Rasima =)
