If you don’t already know… I’m a freak for all things Japanese… Well mostly the language and the entertainment LOL. I have quite a collection of Japanese anime and dramas which I keep myself entertained with. I’ll introduce you my favourite ones, whether or not it appeals to you is another story though… It depends on your individual tastes though. One more thing… If you’re gonna watch Japanese dramas, don’t watch any dubbed ones… they just ruin the drama. Same goes with anime.
Firstly, the ultimate tear jerker…
１リットルの涙 (Ichi Ritoru no Namida) / 1 Litre of Tears
Genre: School, romance, family, human
Length : 11 episodes +1 Special
15-year-old Ikeuchi Aya was an ordinary girl, the daughter of a family who works at a tofu shop, and a soon-to-be high schooler. However, odd things have been happening to Aya lately. She has been falling down often and walks strange. Her mother, Shioka, takes Aya to see the doctor, and he informs Shioka that Aya has spinocerebellar degeneration – a terrible disease where the cerebellum of the brain gradually deteriorates to the point where the victim cannot walk, speak, write, or eat. A cruel disease, as it does not affect the mind in the least. How will Aya react when told about her disease? And how will Aya live from now on?
Cast: Sawajiri Erika (Ikeuchi Aya), Nishikido Ryo (Asou Haruto), Fujiki Naohito (Mizuno Hiroshi-sensei)
This, I’m sure you would have either watched it or heard of it. It is based on a very inspirational true story that happened a few decades ago about a girl with a strong will to live that inspired so many people, this drama was adapted from the diary she left behind. For those who easily get emotional from watching dramas, prepare a box of tissue before you start watching it. If you watch it marathon style, make sure you’re not going to work or school or even shopping the next day. OR… you could always watch it for Ryo-chan!
Next, another sad drama I saw on TV but missed most of the episodes, I tried searching online for subbed versions but failed to find any so I watched it raw instead. This one is quite old.
愛し君へ (Itoshi kimi e) / To the One I Love
Genre: Human drama, Romance
What if the one you love were destined to lose his eyesight in three months?
What would you like him to see last?

“To the One I Love” takes place in two contrasting cities—in the hustle and bustle of Tokyo, and in the peaceful city of Nagasaki, and depicts both the joys and sadness of life, and the interaction with family and friends. — Fuji TV
Cast : Fujiki Naohito ( Azumi Shunsuke) , Kanno Miho ( Tomokawa Shiki)
This one was obviously another tear jerker but not as bad as 1 Litre of tears… What I liked about this drama is that they gave it a great ending. Also, about how love can give people hope.
Next are the ones that will give you a stomachache from laughing.
